Rabbits

The number of rabbits used in biomedical research and testing has fallen dramatically over the last few years because of the development of a non-animal test for some types of pyrogenicity testing. More information

Rabbits differ considerably in size from dwarf breeds, under 2kgs, to Flemish giants at over 6kg and so need different housing arrangements.

Whenever possible rabbits are group housed in floor pens with a variety of tunnels, boxes and materials to provide a stimulating environment.

Equally strict codes of practice apply to all other purpose bred research animals, cats, ferrets, rodents etc. These Codes of Practice can be found on the Home Office web-site.
