The Necessity for Animal Research

Research scientists, including many doctors and veterinarians, are working hard to develop alternative methods to the use of animals, such as cell cultures and computer modelling. Unfortunately the whole human or animal body is so complicated and the diseases that affect it so complex that non-animal methods can only play a part in developing treatments for diseases like epilepsy and high blood pressure. New non-animal methods may reduce the need for animal experiments but we are still likely to have to use animals for the foreseeable future if we are to continue to develop safe and effective medicines.
